Ewha Hosts Special Lecture by Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jenny Shipley
Ewha Hosts Special Lecture by Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jenny Shipley The Ewha Global Institute for Sustainable Partnership and Empowerment (EGISE) held a special lecture featuring former New Zealand Prime Minister Jenny Shipley on the theme “Women Leading Change: Power, Responsibilities, and Global Impact” at the Emerson Chapel in Case Hall on March 13. This was the first session of the “Global Leaders Lecture Series,” commemorating Ewha’s 140th anniversary, with approximately 300 students and others in attendance. Shipley served as New Zealand’s first female prime minister from 1997 to 1999 and chaired the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in 1999, which was a major turning point for cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. As a member of Club de Madrid, an organization of former heads of state, and the Council of Women World Leaders, she has presented insights on social integration, diversity, and strategies for a sustainable future. She recently visited Korea as a speaker at the Global Engagement & Empowerment Forum on Sustainable Development (GEEF) 2026 at Yonsei University. After opening remarks delivered by Ewha President Hyang-Sook Lee, Shipley presented key elements of leadership, including morality, clarity of values, critical analytical skills, and consistent leadership philosophy. In particular, she emphasized accountability in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), stating that those who drive technological innovation must also bear responsibility for its outcomes. She also stressed that humans should guide the direction of AI development and emphasized that cooperation between the sexes is crucial for this goal. Referring to cases of gender equality in the New Zealand Parliament, Shipley also encouraged women to take on a more active role and noted that women’s leadership is essential for making decisions about human-centered technology and a sustainable future. After the lecture, discussion of the role of women’s leadership in the AI era continued through a Q&A session. EGISE plans to build more platforms for global cooperation and action in the future. Ewha, marking its 140th anniversary, will strengthen global competitiveness in research and education through various commemorative initiatives, including lectures by global leaders, international conferences, and academic exchanges.

Ewha Selected for “Seoul-type BRIDGE” Project, Opening Era of KRW 10 Billion in Technical Royalties Ewha Womans University was selected for the “Seoul-type BRIDGE” project under the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Regional Innovation System & Education (RISE) program and will establish a university-industry collaboration platform in western Seoul. Thanks to its selection, Ewha will receive a total of KRW 2.6 billion in project funding over the next four years. The Seoul-type BRIDGE project links university research outcomes with Seoul’s strategic industries and public policies, enabling the commercialization of technology and the creation of social value. The Technology Licensing and Commercialization Center at the Ewha University-Industry Collaboration Foundation (EUICF) will launch the “Arise Ewha, Impact Bridge project team” to promote the project with a focus on Seoul’s creative industries and strategic industries including AI, biotechnology, healthcare, robotics, and fintech. Based on the research capabilities of the Sinchon Campus and the research and medical infrastructure of Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital and Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital, Ewha plans to collaborate with the Seoul Business Agency (SBA) and industrial hubs to build a platform demonstrating university-industry cooperation centered on western Seoul, including the districts of Seodaemun, Yangcheon, and Gangseo. Through specialized programs such as EV-Care and IMPACT-Finder, Ewha will support the full cycle of technology commercialization including corporate IP consulting, proof of concept, technology transfer, development of standard essential patents, and global investment linkages with the aim of attracting KRW 30 billion in investment. In addition, Ewha will expand cooperation with overseas universities, companies, and investment institutions by leveraging its existing global university-industry collaboration consortium and will also support the overseas expansion of Seoul-based companies through international technology transfer and joint research. By strengthening its global patent strategy, reinvesting technology royalties, and expanding its global networks of venture capital, Ewha aims to build a sustainable ecosystem for technology commercialization.
Ewha Selected for Next Phase of TeX-Corps Women-Focused Lab-to-Startup Innovation Group
Ewha Selected for Next Phase of TeX-Corps Women-Focused Lab-to-Startup Innovation Group Ewha Womans University has been selected for the third cohort of the “Women-Focused Lab-to-Startup Innovation Group” under the 2026 Public Technology-Based Market-Linked Startup Exploration Support program (called Tech eXploration-Corps, or TeX-Corps, for short) hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT). Through this selection, the university will receive approximately KRW 1.5 billion annually (KRW 7.5 billion over five years), driving its emergence as a national hub for technology startups led by women in STEM fields. The TeX-Corps program is a startup exploration initiative benchmarked on the Innovation Corps (I-Corps) program under the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) to promote public technology-based entrepreneurship. It supports research teams seeking to validate market demand and explore commercialization potential through customer interviews. Participating institutions include leading STEM-oriented universities such as Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), and Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), as well as major universities including Korea University, Sungkyunkwan University, and Hanyang University. As a hub for women-led startups, Ewha plans to identify female entrepreneurs in cutting-edge fields such as AI, biotechnology, climate technology, and healthcare and wellness technologies and to establish a full-cycle startup support system encompassing education, mentoring, prototype development, and links to investment. During the second cohort of the program (2021–2025), Ewha supported 77 startup exploration teams, with some teams demonstrating their global expansion potential by participating in CES 2026. Going forward, the university plans to offer overseas startup education in collaboration with institutions such as the George Washington University and UC Berkeley and to further enhance its LIFT-based startup support model (LIFT is an integrated platform supporting the full growth cycle for female tech entrepreneurs) to drive the creation of startups based on public technologies.

College of Pharmacy Earns Five-Year Accreditation in First Cycle of Pharmaceutical Education Evaluation
College of Pharmacy Earns Five-Year Accreditation in First Cycle of Pharmaceutical Education Evaluation The College of Pharmacy (Dean: Hwa Jeong Lee) has been awarded five years of accreditation—the highest level available—in the first cycle of the 2025 Pharmaceutical Education Evaluation and Accreditation conducted by the Korean Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (KACPE). Pharmaceutical Education Evaluation and Accreditation is a nationally recognized system based on the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act and the Higher Education Act that comprehensively assesses the overall quality of pharmaceutical education. The evaluation is conducted by KACPE, an accreditation body designated by the Ministry of Education. Beginning in 2025, only graduates (or prospective graduates) of accredited pharmacy colleges will be eligible to take the national pharmacist licensing examination. This evaluation was rigorously carried out through document reviews and on-site visits, based on 50 criteria across the following eight areas: mission and educational goals, administration, curriculum, student body, faculty, educational environment and facilities, postgraduate education, and continuous improvement. Ewha’s College of Pharmacy received high marks across all areas—including outcome-based curriculum management, practice-oriented education, faculty excellence and educational infrastructure, and comprehensive system for ongoing quality improvement—thereby earning the five-year accreditation.
