During the first and second years of study, students mostly take courses that would improve their English pronunciation, listening and speaking skills, writing and reading capabilities, and use of oral expressions, with the aim of developing the capacity to fluently communicate in English in order to fulfill the demands of the globalization era. During the third and fourth years, students acquire specialized knowledge in English language education, English language studies, and English literature, learn theories on English language teaching methods and cultivate English language teaching skills so that they can apply the theories in actual teaching situations, and improve their English language teaching capabilities using information and communication networks and computers as required in the future society.
The minimum number of credits required for graduation is 135, with a minimum of 51 credits earned from major courses. The curriculum for the Department of English Education is largely composed of general education, basic major courses, and major courses. Starting in 2014, newly enrolled students are required to earn at least 18 credits through courses taught in English.

Attend English workshop
once a year
The English workshop has taken place every year since 1995, and is carried out over two days and one night.
In the case that a student’s certification-type major (e.g., elementary education, early childhood education, and special education) is different from his or her main major, then the student is required to complete the teaching practicum separately (additional teaching practicum and curricular courses in education taken due to the double major do not count toward the main major credits).
Students may only register for courses indicated as [double major] or those without any notice during course enrollment.
Graduation requirements: pass graduation exams in four courses, and submit results for certified language proficiency tests
Minor studies have not been offered since first semester of the 2018 academic year.
