  • 1988 Department of Statistics established within the College of Natural Sciences
  • 1989 Master’s degree graduate program in Statistics established
  • 1996 Doctoral degree graduate program in Statistics established, Incorporation into the Department of Natural Sciences within the College of Natural Sciences.
  • 1997 Incorporation into the Department of Mathematical Sciences within the College of Natural Sciences
  • 2001 Integration into the Department of Natural Sciences within the College of Natural Sciences .
  • 2004 Affiliation with Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Natural Sciences

Education Purpose and Goals

The Department of Statistics’ mission is to educate students and engender a broad knowledge base in basic statistics, in accordance with the needs of the times, and producing high quality female resources who can apply statistical knowledge in solving real world problems.

  1. Learning basic statistical theory, statistical methods, and analyzing skills.
  2. Developing data collecting and mining skills to come to a science-based decision.
  3. Applying diverse statistical problems in the real world.
  4. Cultivating professional statisticians and employing modern computer technology to develophigh-quality and computer-intensive statistical procedures

Introduction

Department of Statistics was founded in 1988 and affiliatedwith The College of Natural Sciences. Students majoring in Statistics learn how to analyze various kinds of natural, social and economic phenomena based on information contained in the form of data and learn how to make science-based decisions.
