2023 Winter Semester Intensive Program Completion Ceremony

2023 winter semester intensive program completion ceremony was held on February 19th(Mon) at 12 p.m. During the ceremony, students watched a video showcasing the orientation day and campus tour for new students and the scenes from the 30th Korean Speech Contest for Foreigners, as well as glimpses of Korean classes and cultural activities. Students with good grades were awarded with certificates of excellence, while graduates of level 6 class received their diplomas along with graduation souvenirs. Following this, students shared their thoughts on their experiences and discussed their future plans, concluding the ceremony on a reflective note. Throughout the event, students exchanged congratulatory messages with friends they studied with throughout the semester and expressed gratitude to their teachers. They look forward to meeting again in the warm spring semester, which is set to commence on March 7th(Thu), 2024.

Completion Ceremony for 2023 Winter(2024 February) Short-term

Completion ceremony for 2023 Winter(2024 February) Short-term took place on February 16th(Friday) at 5 p.m. The ceremony included watching a video showcasing students' activities over the course of 3 weeks, awarding of outstanding achievement certificates and completion certificates, and students’ commemorative speeches along with presentations of their thoughts on completion. In this Short-term, Culture classes such as 'Lotte World Exploration (mandatory)' and 'Nanta Performance (optional)' were conducted, eliciting enthusiastic responses from the students. 2023 Winter(2024 February) Short-term is a program where students mainly participate to intensively learn Korean language and culture for a short period of three weeks, often during vacations or holidays. Students of various exchange universities in Japan, including Kansai University of Foreign Studies, Otsuma Women's University, Kaisei Women's Academy University, Kurume University, Kobe Women's Academy University, and Ganda Women's Academy High School, participated in 2023 Winter(2024 February) Short-term.

2023 Winter Semester Intensive Program Club Activities

Ewha Language Center organized club activities for students who are enrolled in the 2023 winter semester intensive program. This semester, the center offered two clubs: the 'K-pop Dance Club' and the 'Art Museum and Gallery Club'. The 'K-pop Dance Club' provided students with the opportunity to learn K-pop dances from professional instructors and to record videos of their performances. Throughout the semester, students learned choreography such as IVE's 'Baddie' and NewJeans’s 'Hype boy'. The 'Art Museum and Gallery Club' arranged visits to various exhibitions at locations including the Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Seoul History Museum, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the National Palace Museum. During these visits, students took photographs and shared their impressions with each other. Through these club activities, students not only made friends who shared similar hobbies and interests but also gained new vitality in their school lives.

2023 Intensive Winter Semester Culture Class for Level 1, 2 Classes

Ewha Language Center conducted ‘Taekwondo Demonstration and Experience’ culture class for students in level 1 and 2, on December 29th(Fri) and January 5th(Fri). It was held from 10:00~12:30, and consisted of two parts: ‘Observing Taekwondo Breaking Demonstration’ in the first part and ‘Learning Basic Taekwondo Movements’ in the second part. During the first part, students wore Taekwondo uniforms and observed Taekwondo breaking demonstration. After a brief warm-up exercise, they proceeded to learn basic Taekwondo movements and even attempted breaking wooden boards. Students enthusiastically followed the Taekwondo movements while wearing their Taekwondo uniforms, engaging in both physical and mental training. They also captured moments of their experience through photographs, enjoying a delightful time during this culture class.

Ewha Womans University Language Center held 30th Korean Speech Contest for Foreigners

Ewha Womans University Language Center (Director Lee Eun-joo) held the 30th Korean Speech Contest for Foreigners at 11 a.m. on January 5 (Friday) at the Ewha-Samsung Education Culture Building. Ewha Language Center's "Korean Speech Contest for Foreigners" is a representative event of the language center that has been held continuously except for the COVID-19 period in 2020 and 2021 since it was first held in 1991 in order to encourage foreign language trainees learning Korean. Eight students from India, Japan, Taiwan, the United States, China, the Philippines, Bolivia, and Brunei, who passed the fierce preliminary round, competed in the speech contest under the themes of "My Growth through Failure," "My Life in Korea I Enjoy" and "New Year's Wish in 2024.” The grand prize for the 30th Contest was awarded to a student from India named TANNAVAJHULA VARSHA ANUGRAHA, who was applauded by the audience for telling the story of her growth through various experiences in Korea in fluent Korean. In addition, to celebrate the competition, a K-pop dance performance by foreign students at the Language Center and a performance by Ewha Students String Quartet further heightened the atmosphere of the speech contest. One of the eight finalists who receive the grand prize was awarded a certificate and scholarships of 500,000 won; certificates and scholarships of 300,000 won for the two top prize winners; certificates and scholarships of 150,000 won for three excellence prize winners; and certificates and scholarship of 50,000 won for three encouragement prize winners. 2023 NTU-EWHA Korean Language Immersion Program

Ewha Language Center conducted 2023 NTU-EWHA Winter Korean Language Immersion Program in collaboration with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. The program took place from December 11th(Mon) for 3 weeks. During the program, NTU students took class in the morning for 4 hours. In the afternoons, they participated in culture classes focused on various aspects of Korean culture. Specifically, the culture classes included experiences such as wearing traditional Korean Hanbok, making Korean cuisine, trying K-pop dance, visiting iconic places in Seoul and museums. These diverse cultural activities led to active participation and enthusiastic responses from the students. Furthermore, during the exchange session with Ewha Womans University students which was conducted for 6 hours, discussions were held on university life in Singapore and Korea, as well as the cultural aspects of both countries. The NTU-EWHA Winter Korean Language Immersion Program concluded with a graduation ceremony held on December 29th (Fri). All 48 students who participated in the program successfully completed the course.

2023 Winter Semester Intensive Program Scholarship Certificate Award Ceremony

The scholarship certificate award ceremony for 2023 Winter Semester took place on December 26th(Tue) in Room 101. In this semester, a total of 8 students were selected as scholarship recipients, consisting of 4 beginner's level students and 4 intermediate/advanced level students, all recognized for their outstanding academic achievements. The ceremony was attended by Director Lee Eun-Ju, Vice Director Lee Geum-Sook, and teachers, who congratulated the scholarship recipients. The ceremony commenced with congratulatory speech from Director Lee Eun-Ju, followed by the presentation of scholarship certificates to the students. The event also featured speeches from the scholarship recipients expressing their gratitude and concluded with a commemorative photo session. Scholarship recipients will receive 50% of their intensive program tuition as Academic Excellence Scholarship. Ewha Womans University Ewha Language Center awards Academic Excellence Scholarships to students every semester.

The Start of 2023 Winter Semester

2023 Winter semester of Intensive Korean Language Program has begun. It started on December 6th(Wed), and the Test of Proficiency in Korean(TOPIK) Preparation Program will begin on December 13th(Wed). 2023 Winter(February) Short-term Korean Language Program will commence on January 29th(Mon), 2024. Additionally, during this winter semester, Commissioned Programs with Nanyang Technological University(NTU) from Singapore and Ksimple Study from Russia are scheduled. The opening ceremony for Winter semester of Intensive program took place in each classroom, and orientation along with campus tour for new students were conducted as group activities. Especially, 'Korean Speaking Contest' for advanced-level students will be held during this Winter semester. After-school cultural activities, and various cultural experience activities, such as Dance club and Exploration club will also be organized. This Winter semester for Intensive program would be completed on February 19th(Mon), 2024.

2023 Fall Semester September Short-term Course Completion Ceremony

The completion ceremony for the September 2023 short-term course was held at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 22. Approximately 60 students, including participants from Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies in Japan, an exchange university, took part in the September short-term course. The ceremony included the viewing of a video highlighting the students' activities over the three weeks, the presentation of honor certificates and completion certificates, congratulatory remarks on the students’ successful completion, and an opportunity for them to share reflections on the program. Students in the September short-term course engaged in cultural classes, such as ‘making songpyeon and visiting a Korean food gallery (Korean food culture space E:eum)’ and ‘Hanbok experience (Namsangol Hanok Village)’. Particularly, the students enjoyed wearing colorful Hanbok and capturing elegant photographs in the traditional Hanok. The Ewha Womans University Language Center's Short-term Course is a three-week program encompassing Korean language and culture classes. It primarily attracts students seeking intensive Korean language learning experiences during their vacations or holidays.

2023 Fall Semester Scholarship Award Ceremony

The scholarship award ceremony for the 2023 fall semester intensive course took place on Tuesday, September 19th. Eight students were selected as scholarship students, and they were the highest achieving students in each class. The ceremony, where scholarship certificates were presented, was attended by Director Eun-ju Lee, Vice Director Geum-sook Lee, and teachers from the Korean Language Education Department attended. They extended their congratulations to the scholarship recipients. The ceremony comprised a congratulatory speech by Director Eunjoo Lee, the awarding of scholarship certificates, and presentations of testimonials by the scholarship students, accompanied by commemorative photos. As recipient of the Korean language excellence scholarship, students will benefit from a 50% reduction in their intensive course tuition. The Ewha Womans University Language Center continues to award academic excellence scholarships to deserving students every semester.
