[INVITATION]
Conference on the Abolition of the Death Penalty (22 June 2026)
151 countries worldwide have abolished the death penalty in law or practice, whilst a number of countries still apply capital punishment and/or include it in their national legislation.
The 9th World Congress Against the Death Penalty will take place in Paris from 30 June to 2 July 2026. Organized every three years by the NGO Ensemble Contre la Peine de Mort (ECPM), the World Congress is a major gathering of the global abolitionist movement, bringing together governments, parliamentarians, civil society organizations and citizens committed to ending capital punishment worldwide.
In advance of the Congress, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea will organize a Conference on the Abolition of the Death Penalty on 22 June 2026 , in partnership with the Embassy of France in the Republic of Korea, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Seoul, the International Commission against the Death Penalty and Human Asia.
The event aims to promote informed dialogue on the abolition of the death penalty and reaffirm the EU's longstanding commitment to the protection of human rights. It will feature expert panel discussions and interactive exchanges with youth representatives and civil society organizations.
