Chemical Engieering and Materials Science

Chemical Engineering and Materials Science (CHEMS) is the academic area that seeks to understand, control, and utilize materials and energy systems. The approaches of CHEMs take advantage of fundamental principles and focus more on the development of chemical methods of novel utility and improved efficiencies. Indeed, CHEMS has contributed to a vast number of key achievements, including the development of the ammonia synthesis, plastics, displays and solar cells.
These achievements were made possible due to the unique characteristics of CHEMS, in which both basic science and applied technologies are intimately integrated. This uniqueness is the reason that a strong need for CHENS will persist and increase in the future
. The gamut of academic areas in CHEMS Is diverse, and involves not only traditional areas, such as chemical industries and process/systems engineering, but also new and emerging areas, such as bioengineering, micro-electronics, novel materials, bioinformatics, green technologies, and energy industry. Actually, study and research in CHEMS includes a variety of areas of interests, and requires the broad scope of interdisciplinary disciplines, such as environmental engineering, computer engineering, and electrical engineering.
Future research of CHENS contains understanding and controlling of materials at the molecular levels, the key requirement for innovative breakthroughs. The CHEMS in Ewha Womans University (http://chem.ewha.ac.kr) has been established in 2015, with an aim of providing the highest-level education of female undergraduate and graduate students who will be fully capable of being leaders in the CHEMS.
