Hazard Literacy Center, affiliated with Ewha Womans University's College of Education, was established in 2020 to enhance citizens' and students' understanding of global hazards.
Research on natural disasters is inherently interdisciplinary. Not only does it require convergence among the natural sciences-such as geology, atmospheric science, physics, chemistry, and biology-for fundamental hazard research, but collaborative research with curriculum-based education is also essential to foster disaster literacy among current citizens and future generations, including primary and secondary school students.
Our center is dedicated to conducting such interdisciplinary research. Scientists in geology, atmospheric science, biology, chemistry, and physics collaborate with experts in science and social studies education to provide differentiated hazard literacy education based on accurate scientific information and informed social risk assessment.
We pursue a variety of research activities aimed at fostering hazard literacy among citizens through the popularization of hazard science. By leading research in hazard science and hazard education-ranging from scientific studies that promote fundamental understanding of hazards to educational research that cultivates citizens’ and students’ capacity to respond rationally to hazards-we aim to play a pioneering role in this field.
We sincerely appreciate your interest and support for our center. Thank you.
