1. 2025학년도 신입생 박**(학부 전공: 행정학과) 

 학부 전공이 영어가 아니지만, 대학시절 아르바이트로 경험했던 영어 교육이 잘 맞아 졸업 후 국내에서 TESOL Certificate, 캐나다 현지에서 TESOL Diploma를 취득 한 후 영어 강사로 커리어를 시작해 사교육 현장에서 10년 넘게 아이들을 가르쳐오고 있습니다. 대형 어학원들에서 오랜 시간 강의를 해오다 보니 각 원에서 제공하는 커리큘럼 대로 수업하는 것에 익숙하고 편안함을 느끼고 있지만, 언어를 가르치는 선생님으로서 전공으로 심도 있게 영어 교육을 공부하고 싶다는 열망이 커졌고, 국내 TESOL 석사 과정을 알아보게 되었습니다.

 국내 TESOL 석사 학위 운영 대학 중 온라인 과정을 제외하고 관심이 가는 학교는 이화여자대학교 외국어교육특수대학원이었고, 본 대학원만 지원하고 합격해 9월 첫 수업을 기다리고 있습니다. 이대 TESOL과정에 지원하게 된 이유는 4학기 안에 석사 학위 과정을 마칠 수 있다는 점, 대면 야간 수업이라 직업과 병행할 수 있다는 점, 그리고 무엇보다 졸업요건으로 논문 대신 포트폴리오를 제출할 수 있다는 점이었습니다. 항상 나만의 교재와 커리큘럼을 통해 보다 효과적으로 영어를 가르치고 싶다는 생각을 가지고 있었고, 교재를 직접 제작하고 이를 기반으로 저만의 학원 브랜드를 시작하여 실제 교육 현장에 적용하는 것이 최종 목표인 저에게 딱 맞는 과정이라는 생각이 들었습니다.

 입학 준비는 공유된 정보가 부족해 처음에는 막막했지만, 학교 홈페이지의 입학 요강을 참고했고, 학과장님이 진행해주신 입학 설명회에 참여한 것도 큰 도움이 되었습니다. 오랜 기간 강사로서, 기업의 해외 영업 팀에서 일한 경력이 있었기에 경력 증명서 등의 서류 제출 준비는 어렵지 않았고, 서류 제출을 준비하면서 관련분야에서 일했던 경험을 되살리며 입학 자격이 충분하다는 자신감도 되새길 수 있었습니다. 면접은 제출 서류 준비를 위해 작성했던 자기 소개서 및 연구 계획서를 바탕으로 예상 질문과 답변을 준비했습니다. 대학원 진학의 목표가 뚜렷했기에 준비가 어렵지 않았고, 막상 면접 시에는 긴장감에 분명하게 대답하지 못한 부분도 있었지만 교수님께서 따듯하게 대화를 이끌어 주셔서 잘 마무리 할 수 있었던 것 같습니다. 또 입학 전 실제 수업하시는 교수님들과 대화하고 질의할 수 있었기에 이 또한 좋은 기회였다고 생각합니다.

 앞서 언급한 것처럼 저의 최종 목표는 본 대학원에서 배우고 연구한 이론적∙교육학적 지식을 바탕으로 이 분야 전문가이신 교수님들의 지도를 받아 제작한 교재를 확장하고 브랜드화 하여 저만의 교육 기업을 만드는 것입니다. 비슷한 목표와 배경을 가진 선생님들과 만나 함께 성장할 저의 미래가 무척 기대가 되며, 저도 이 프로그램을 자랑스럽게 추천할 수 있는 졸업생이 되기를 기원합니다.

2. 2학기 재학생 차**(학부 전공: 국제어문학(영어)/상담심리) 

Growing up, I lived abroad for most of my life and used English in various settings, both in studying and teaching. I came to view English as a subject of great importance due to its widespread influence as a global language. After completing my bachelor’s degree in English and psychology, I decided I would continue my studies on English education.

While searching for a graduate program in Korea, the TESOL master’s program at Ewha Womans University stood out to me. It caught my interests because the lectures were provided in English, which was perfect for someone like me who preferred to study the subject of English in the English language. I was also intrigued by the graduation requirement of submitting a portfolio rather than the traditional thesis or research paper. After learning more about the program, I felt that a portfolio would be more beneficial for my future career goals, so I applied after completing my undergraduate degree.

When I began my first semester, I was initially worried about adjusting, as I was one of the younger students and had limited teaching experience compared to my peers. Despite this, the classroom environment was encouraging and supportive. Both professors and students worked hard for the success of one another. The professors were patient with new students adjusting to the evening classes and had a deep knowledge of the TESOL subject in all forms. Senior students were very generous to share advice on course planning and comprehension exams to manage the program more efficiently and with less stress.

I am incredibly grateful for all the support I have received during my first semester because it helped me adjust to the academic expectations and build more knowledge on effective teaching. Over time, I grew confident with my teaching demonstrations and assignments. I even had the opportunity to assist newer students in later semesters and learn of their background experiences as well. If anyone is considering a career in English education, I recommend the TESOL program of Ewha Womans University because of their experienced professors and the inspirational environment of fellow classmates.
