History of Department

The Department of Mathematics was established as part of the College of Education in 1951 and later became restructured into the College of Humanities in 1962. Subsequently, the department was transferred to the College of Natural Sciences upon its establishment in 1982.

As the College of Engineering was separated from the College of Natural Sciences, the Department of Mathematics subsequently moved to the third floor of Science Building A.

Ewha Womans University’s reorganization of the school system and establishment of the College of Natural Sciences led the Department of Mathematics to become part of the College of Natural Sciences. (Student quota for the Department of Mathematics: 60)

Restructured into the College of Humanities in line with the school system reorganization policy of the Ministry of Education.
Office of the Department of Mathematics moved to the second floor of the old lecture hall for natural science , then situated in the present-day Student Union.

Accepted first class of new students into the College of Education at the wartime evacuee campus in Busan.
Professor Cho Byeong-guk appointed as the first head of department, subsequently dedicated efforts for the advancement of the department along with Professor Song Ok-hyeong and Jung Yeong-jin.
Department of Mathematics initially located on the second floor of the former Science Building, present-day College of Pharmacy building.
