The Department of Mathematics was established as part of the College of Education in 1951 and later became restructured into the College of Humanities in 1962. Subsequently, the department was transferred to the College of Natural Sciences upon its establishment in 1982.

Accepted first class of new students into the College of Education at the wartime evacuee campus in Busan. Professor Cho Byeong-guk appointed as the first head of department, subsequently dedicated efforts for the advancement of the department along with Professor Song Ok-hyeong and Jung Yeong-jin. Department of Mathematics initially located on the second floor of the former Science Building, present-day College of Pharmacy building.
Received accreditation to establish natural sciences departments (Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry), as well as the College of Education.
Ewha Womans University officially recognized as a university (Ewha’s first president Helen Kim).
